The fastest way to stop sounding like AI is to stop giving AI the job of sounding like you from scratch every time. You build the instructions once, and they run on their own from then on.

Here is the full walkthrough, plus the parts that did not fit in the issue.

Step 1: Turn Skills on

This is the step almost everyone misses, and without it the Skills menu does not appear at all.

1. Open Claude in your browser or the app
2. Go to Settings, then Capabilities
3. Switch on Code execution and file creation

That is it. One toggle. Claude also comes with built-in Skills for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and PDF, so the moment you flip that switch, those start working too.

Step 2: Gather your two ingredients

Your Hot Start doc. The document that tells Claude who you are, what you do, and who you are talking to. If you have not made one yet, do that first. It makes everything else better.

One piece of writing that sounds like you at your best. An essay, an email you were proud of, a long message you sent when you were fired up about something. It does not have to be recent or polished.

What makes a good sample:

• You wrote it without AI help
• You would say it out loud to someone's face
• It is at least a few paragraphs, so there is enough rhythm to read
• It sounds like you on a normal day, not you trying to sound impressive
